Puddle Gray

This ones my favorite. I'm in love with the turquise dresser...future project? I think so.

Well, not sure if you can tell, but I'm seriously thinking about painting the walls of my room gray. I've seen this done so many times, and I fall in love with the idea of having gray walls more and more. It'll go perfect with my current room design- plus it's great if I ever decide to switch up my room (which I highly doubt). So, I've started looking at some possible color choices online using Behr's Virtual Color Center and I think I've found some shades that I like...
Here's what I've considered so far:
~Winter Cocoa (lovin' the name)
~Puddle (The shade name I used in the title)
Not sure if I'm actually going to go with Behr paint, but I like seeing different shades on their website to sorta see what I'm looking for (I really wanna go with paint with no VOCs). My favorites so far are definitely Winter Cocoa and Pewter Mug. My only concern is whether I should choose one with a purple base or a blue base.... I guess I'll have to be going to Home Depot to get some paint chips...

Antique Shop

I REALLY liked this sofa... I even considered buying the pillow too!
I can see this being in my apartment when I'm in my 20's...(or 18) haha

My family and I were up in Michigan for Thanksgiving this past weekend and stopped by a cute little antique shop. There were so many cute things in this store, I had to whip out my phone and snap some pictures (hence the poor quality). I totally regret not buying anything...

PS: Happy birthday to my beautiful mother! :)

It Won't Be Long yeah!

Well, lookie here! This is just a quick pic of my bookshelves. I'm super anxious to debut my new room design (although it's had the same theme/layout for 11 months now...) on the blog. I've bought a nicer camera recently and I'm sure I'll be snapping tons of blog-worthy pictures in the near-future.
The only thing completely holding me back from taking pictures of my whole room is the mess that lies on the floor. It's not THAT bad right now, but trust me, it can get WAY worse. I'm so serious, I'm throwing in words in all caps. That's when you know I'm serious.
I'm going to (keyword: try) reorganize my room and tidy it up for a much needed photoshoot. I have so many things that I'm waiting to share with you guys. I just need to take care of my laziness first....
Trust me though, the day will come soon where my room is clean for an entire month. Just not now.

Wherefore art thou Romeo?

Ohhh hey!

It's been a while.... like 2 months, 1 week, and 3 days to be exact. I blame this all on school- I've been waaayyy too caught up in homework and projects. But I have made a plan that I am NOT going to procrastinate with that, which will leave me with TONS of time to post. Therefore, there will be tons of more posts involving Interior design (and not a typical teenager's rant about high school)

Okay, give me a few minutes while I whip out another post!

Florida

{*}
Well hello there!

Yes, it's been a while, but only because I was in Florida last week and this week I've been caught up in a lot of work and summer homework assignments! Thankfully, I've completed everything except an essay and just a little bit of my math packet. I'm sorta hoping that writing this post will help me get into the whole "writing" mood. But enough about that; I wanna talk about Florida!

I was lucky enough to go on an awesome trip with my family down to Orlando. We didn't really have many plans, we just sorta found things that would be fun and interesting. We went to Gatorland (which we actually got free tickets thanks to my mom's awesome work place), Daytona Beach, Wet n Wild water park, and just did so many little things to keep us busy! But my favorite thing we did was go Vintage shopping! We tried 2 days to find Vintage stores around the area. We had mapped out 4, tried 3, but were only successful with one. Although I only left with a t-shirt and a dress, it was AMAZING! Now all I want to do is open up a vintage shop with my mom and sister! (Trust me, we've thought about this A LOT.)

Although there were points that week where things got a little dramatic, I had a blast and I'm happy to be home and have so many great memories.

I'm going to try to write more posts later on because I start high school on Monday and I feel the need to document my very first week. I already had orientation and I just can't WAIT. I'm also planning on making a post of just all the artistic pictures I took around Orlando and Daytona. So stay tuned!...all zero of you! Hah.

19 More Days

Okay.....

I've been having some trouble getting my priorities straight on what I need/want to buy before school starts. Here are just a few things that remind me to quit buying more clothes and buy these instead:

(for my lunch) {modcloth}

I just need these things, my regular school supplies, some plain cardigans (which I consider a necessity, and has quite frankly been hard to find at a good price!) and maybe some chain from Michael's to fix myself up some necklaces. Then I'll be ready to go!...oh yeah, and finish my summer work. But I finished my book yesterday morning so now all I have left is an essay, a little bit of math, and a creative project!

It's HERE!

I was so excited when it came in the mail! I know, I'm a dork. But GAH! Being the cheap-buyer myself, of course I love Ikea! And all of the pictures and room designs are so pretty!! ;)

My Luck is Changing!

Well... I haven't been able to make any posts due to the fact that my internet connection hasbeen bad on my computer for about a week now. So for the meantime, I have to use my Dad's.

Anyways, a TON of stuff has been happening lately. First off, I got a job at my local ice cream place! I'm really excited about it because I will finally be getting money in the bank and so far I've been having a blast! My sister also works there so she's been training me and showing me how to do everything.

Second, I recently found out (as in 2 days ago) that I have been accepted into a special magnent high school! I'm SOOO happy to be going there and can't wait for school to start up in a few weeks. But my only problem is that there are only a few weeks left of summer, and I'm supposed to get all of my reading assignments done in time for the first day of school. Plus, I'm going on vacation in about a week and I started my job so that shortens my time even more-EEK!

Haha. I'm a fast reader and do relatively well at math so HOPEFULLY this will be a piece of cake! Luckily, one of the books I have to read is -supposedly- a fun read and excellent book!

Headboards

Headboards...headboards...headboards......

For some time now I've been trying to find the perfect one but have had absolutely no luck. I really want one with a wrought iron feel to it, like these:

Actually, the second one is from Ikea and it's been at the top of my list for a while. Plus- it's only $89 for a full sized one. The only problem I have with it is the size; it's a little bit too wide to fit where my bed is currently placed (in between two windows). But hey- I just might try anyways. I think it might be fine sitting a couple of inches away from the wall...

{ikea}

Well that's all for now. I've been working on my room and so far I've got my bookcases, desk, and dresser reorganized and dusted! Then tomorrow I'm working on painting a little set of drawers which I will post about!

My Tween Bedroom

Hello Readers!

When I was 11, my sister was off to college and I got her old room. I was very excited because I was moving out of my teeny tiny bedroom and getting a large room I could make my own. With the design help from my mom and muscle from my dad, we painted and put the room together in one day! These are some pictures taken a while after:

The pictures aren't the best quality in the world but they work, right? Plus, this is just one room layout compared to about 5 others- I moved my stuff around constantly.

But since then, I've gotten older and my style has completely changed (remember- I was 11). A while ago I got completely hooked on HGTV and interior design again and decided that it was time for my room to change (again). This time I decided to stick to one color palette and make it a soothing/chic room that I can keep throughout high school.

My room is currently a mess and I'm still working on some finishing touches so I don't have any current pictures. But once I do I will definitely post the after pictures of my bedroom

Thanks for reading!

The Young Dreamer; the prologue

(a few of my pillows and main colors in my room)

Hello! My name is Rachel and this is my blog titled "The Young Dreamer." My main purpose for opening a blog like this is to express myself and my biggest passion: interior design. Ever since I was little I've wanted to work in the interior design business (hence the name "the young dreamer"). I'm always changing my room constantly, thinking of my dream house, and watching home design shows when I can. When I first got into reading blogs that people have created to display their home and their inspiration, I was ecstatic and decided that I should join in on the fun. So this blog is just my way of letting all of the thoughts that have gathered up in my head free.

And yes, I'm only a teenager, but I feel like interior design has always been dear to my heart. Ugh, I sound cliche, but I'm just trying to let out the things that have been boggling my mind.

I'm also going to post things about art, fashion, and music, and let you in on some of the things that will be going on in my life (mainly school-boring, I know). Although I do love interior design, I think there's room for more.

Well, I think that's about it. If you have read this, I appreciate your time. I will definitely be posting more soon!

Thank you!
-Rachel :)
